Listening to Jill Barber's latest album Chansons, you would think the Vancouver-based singer has spent a long time nurturing a deep love for the French language. On Chansons (out Jan. 29), Barber takes the classic words and melodies of Edith Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg and Quebec poet Raymond Levesque, among others, to create a soulful triptych that sends you on a smoky, jazz-soaked stroll through the streets of Quebec City and Paris, and soaking in the sun on the Cote d'Azur.
