Drew Vision - The Doldrums

Check out R&B newcomer Drew Vision, and his official mixtape/EP debut, ‘The Doldrums.’ According to the singer/songwriter ‘The Doldrums’ is a dull, listless state of existence where nothing seems to progress; a character breaking and building rite of passage, unavoidable in this journey called life. Drew transparently sings about his personal struggles through this cold, colorless, love-lost space; falling for the wrong girl; and facing all the consequences that come with it. Teaming up with producers like TheVamp, 316 Music Group, and SneakyBeans, Drew sings his heart out as he shows the world a man unashamed of heartbreak. Even after being scarred, Drew continues his search for MISS UNDERSTANDING, waiting for her to rescue him from an abyss that some people never return from, “THE DOLDRUMS”.

J. Cole – Cole Summer

As he nears completion on his sophomore album, J. Cole takes a break from recording to remind us that he’s coming with heat this summer. On the soulful “Cole Summer,” the self-proclaimed “cheap ass ni**a” raps about throwing thousands in the strip club with Drake (“The difference is I’m throwing 4, he throwing 50″), Jay-Z’s orders to record with Stargate (“That shit was like detention now”), and dreams of Tia and Tamera Mowry. The cover is a reference to his mother, who used to work at the post office. “I told her quit her job, but hold your horses/ If my next album flop, it’s back to the post office, both of us,”he raps over a sample of Lauryn Hill’s “Nothing Even Matters.” Drizzy shared his thoughts on the introspective track. “COLE SUMMER!!! Haaaaa. That’s my brother man. Bars too real. Too ill.” Cole is putting the finishing touches on Born Sinner before it drops on June 25. “Few Days to finish the album then off to Mixing. Here’s some thoughts. Cole Summer,” he wrote.

You should be familiar with the name K’La by now, maybe you first heard her on “Blame”with Nas, or previously with “All Your Love.” If not, she is a Gary, Indiana native, currently signed to Island Def Jam, working on her debut album. While, she has caught most of our attention for her singing, she is actually a singer/rapper, and to introduce or re-introduce her two sides she released the tape “Everyday People.” It actually dropped earlier this month, but we thought it was an all rap project. Turns out, it’s about half/half, with the R&B-ish songs starting around track 9. So, if you know her already and haven’t check this out, or are hearing about her for the first time, stream and download below:

Quasimoto – Yessir Whatever

Quasimoto, the reclusive alter-ego of Oxnard, California producer/emcee Madlib has not released an album since 2005's The Further Adventures Of Lord Quas. According to Stones Throw Records, Quas was birthed on Madlib's early underground beat tapes; the persona was never intended for the public. However, as word spread around the California beat and deejay community, the helium-voiced, provocative emcee who looped up his own beats became a cult-followed sensation, and one of Madlib's most successful and championed offshoots. Madlib recently concluded a 13 volume release series of Madlib Medicine Show. The veteran producer is also finishing up a project with Gary, Indiana emcee Freddie Gibbs.

Adrian Marcel – 7 Days Of Weak

Raphael Saadiq presents the 7 Days Of Weak – a 15-track project with a throwback 90s r&b sound – from protégé, singer/songwriter Adrian Marcel. Saadiq executive produced the project and also lent a hand with production. He expresses a great deal of pride in Marcel – a fellow Bay Area artist – and the project during a promo video for the project. Raphael Saadiq also opens the release with a bit of advice for the East Oakland crooner. The project was preceded by the video for Marcel’s single “I’m Still” – a track that asserts he’s remained the same guy despite success. Stepping it up, Marcel taps Wale for the remix. If you love how he ripped “Lotus Flower Bomb”, you will love this joint. What is abundantly clear from the sound of things is that Adrian Marcel has what it takes to continue to rise
